Brady’s killing streets… what it was like growing up in shadows of evil
There was a Saturday morning ritual in the northern suburbs of Manchester in the 1960s. Kids and dogs were thrown out onto the streets while the moms did the shopping and the dads waited for the pubs to open again.
North Manchester, museum of bleachers, dyers, poets, pimps and perverts.
My family lived there on the outskirts of the Tall Town of Chimneys for more than a century. Way back then, this wasn’t a godforsaken hole, it was a land fertile with dreams, hopes and opportunities. It was beautiful place … salmon in the Irk, woodlands and wild hyacinth, meadows, daffodils and primrose.
But 50 years ago, when those kids hit the streets they were in danger from the likes of Brady and Hindley who were looking for more young innocent victims.
They say that on the streets of Manchester you are never more than six feet away from a rat … well, Brady and Hindley weren’t rats, they were pure evil.
And even now after his death Brady is sending a shiver down the spine of this now grand and vibrant city.
Brady’s body was not being released until assurances had been given that his ashes will not be scattered on Saddleworth Moor, a coroner has said.
He failed to reveal where one of his victims, Keith Bennett, was buried, meaning the youngster’s body may never be found. Yet, in a further insult to victims, a coroner said he may have wanted his ashes scattered on Saddleworth Moor, where he and Hindley hid the bodies of those they killed.

Keith’s temporary resting place WILL be found one day, and so will the bodies of the other(s) missing who were never named (some who were never even recognised as missing), who lost their lives to the senseless evil of Brady and his accomplices all thise years ago. I fully and firmly believe it, because I know for a fact that there are still, so many years later, people working tirelessly towards exactly that end, who will continue to do so every day of every year until it happens. Not everyone who studies the cases of the missing is in search of fame and fortune, or indeed has a sick enjoyment of the tortures they faced. Some people honestly do care about cold case victims, and those people are genuine in their searches to right the wrongs of evil. Whether the world knows it or not, Brady himself said “its all out there” (ie the answers are all out there already in the public domain). Few words that came out of Brady’s mouth could ever be trusted, but I firmly believe those words were true because of the way he said them. Somewhat regretfully and dejectedly apparently. And if that is the case, its only a matter of time until Keith (and the others) are found and returned to their families. Evil has a deadly power, but love has a far stronger power. With real love, and true dedication, ANYTHING is possible. Sometimes these things just take time, sometimes even decades while technology catches up and the right information reaches the right people. Keep the faith. Brady and Hindley (and others like them) enjoyed having the power of their secrets for as long as it lasted. But their enjoyment will NOT last forever. The day that power is rightfully taken back by the families who they hurt with their senseless, selfish cruelty, will be a day of true celebration, because it will be the day where love will truly overcome evil once again, and its a day that I for one, and many others just like me, will also be rejoicing.
