A CORRIE JOLLY AS BILL SAYS I’LL KEEP ON ACTING AT 90 (THAT’S GOOD BILL, YOU’VE NEVER MANAGED IT BEFORE – OH NO! DON’T SUE ME, IT’S A BIRTHDAY JOKE, JUST A JOKE…)

William Roache has said he has “no intention of retiring”. He’s 90 years old now and still crops up on our screens every week or so.

The actor, who will turn 90 on 25 April, has appeared as Ken Barlow in the ITV soap for more than 60 years and holds a Guinness World Record for the longest-surviving TV soap star.

The actor said: “People will say when are you retiring? Are you going to take a break? But then what happens. And I just carry on.”

Asked about the secret to his success and still working at 90, he said: “I suppose I always feel like I’m learning.

“You know, people ask me if the younger ones ask me for advice and I say no, they’re all so good and confident that I feel I should ask them.

“I always feel I’m still growing up. I never feel grown up in life anyway. And then I’ve always got things to learn.”

I am a journalist, writer and broadcaster ... lately I've been concentrating on music, I spent many years as a music critic and a travel writer ... I gave up my last editorship a while ago and started concentrating on my blog. I was also asked to join AirTV International as a co host of a new show called Postcard ...

Not a fan, his son who is an actor in America is a bit one-dimensional too. I think many other Coronation Street stars were/are greater actors. But, that’s just my opinion.

I walked into the Bulls Head in Prestbury and as I walked towards the bar Bill walked across in front of me and he stopped and looked at me like he’d recognised me. I thought Wow! I’m famous.
