Why customer services is still going off the rails, despite war, pestilence and isolation

Yes, we’ve become an island, been isolated and now face being bombed by a tiny madman … so, when we finally come back with three heads, Madge Simpson hair colour and a sheep-bleat instead of a megaphone of protest, are we going to let the Customer Experience yobs continue to help us, support us, have tantrums and hang-up on us? Or are we going to go for a New World Order?

A world where you order something, it arrives, doesn’t get tossed over somebody else’s back door, its complete, it works, nothing falls off it and you don’t have to lose it forever by sending it back to the vendor?

Well, what a world that would be!

STAFFORD, 2018

What is wrong with you London Midland Rail… why have we paid more than £25 to park the car at Stafford station, spent £30 on crap sandwiches, sat for an hour in what’s little more than a lean-to open to the elements on ice-cold metal seats, been told by WH Smiths they only serve cold drinks …

And now you’ve cancelled our train!

Nobody has said sorry or explained… We can’t get on the next London train cos it does not belong to L&M and everybody who was on the cancelled train is now on the train we are waiting for… So no seats …

So yep, we’ve been ripped off, abandoned, ignored and left to freeze in a lean-to … Well done customer service in the UK yet again .. Watch out for this on the leighgbankspreservationsociety.com … We are going for our money back!

(We got it!)

As my dongle dangled, the doyens of customer services couldn’t help crying …

It’s my blarty and I’ll cry if I want to … you would do too ‘cos of customers like you…

From the archives but sadly still relevant today.

It all began with the advent of customer services – that last bastion of lost ambition, pointless platitudes and inverted aggression, the industry that seems only to employ failed parking wardens, bloated pointless pompous ousted county councillors and those hypocratic oafs of the NHS, jobless doctors receptionists!

Here’s a real conversation with a real customer services representative at a real supermarket:

Me, I hand a CS rep the opened package of an internet dongle: “Hello, the dongle I bought here a few days ago doesn’t work.”

CS: “I’m sorry, I’m here to help sir, can you explain what the problem is?”

Me: “Yes, my dongle doesn’t work.”

CS: “I’m sorry sir, do you have the receipt?”

Me: “I’m sorry I’ve lost it.”

CS: “I’m sorry sir, I’m afraid that without a receipt there is nothing I can do.”

Me: “Yes you can…”

CS: “I’m sorry sir, it’s company policy.”

Me: “Well, it certainly isn’t my policy or the policy of the law of the land …”

CS: “I’m sorry sir, I’m only trying to help you.”

Me: “Well you’re not helping me by telling me there’s nothing you can do to help me!”

CS: “I’m sorry sir, I’m here to help you but I can’t help if you adopt that kind of attitude towards me…”

Me: “All I’m saying is that you actually can help me if I don’t have a receipt…”

CS: “I’m sorry sir, I’m not willing to be spoken to in that way – if you persist, I’ll will have to call security.”

And so we proceeded for some minutes before the manager was called who changed my dongle for me without argument and I continued with my shopping!

HOW THE DOGS OF WAR SLAUGHTERED ANIMAL VOLUNTEER ANASTASIIA

HOW THE DOGS OF WAR SLAUGHTERED ANIMAL VOLUNTEER ANASTASIIA

This young Ukrainian volunteer, Anastasiia Yalanskaya, died as she delivered food to a dog shelter outside of Kyiv.

Anastasiia Yalanskaya was filming her fight for the animals when she was killed.

It has been suggested she may have been traced through her social media posts.

Anastasiia’s Instagram post was posted hours before her death. The post showed her sitting in the back of a car with bags of dog food.

The dogs at the shelter had not been fed for three days. Two others died in the attack.

nastasiia Yalanskaya is a 26-year-old Ukrainian woman who was born and raised in Kyiv. She decided not to evacuate with her friends and family and instead fight against the Russian troops.

Her Facebook page shows that she worked at DataRobot, an AI software development firm. A colleague there was one of the first to pay tribute.

Anastasiia graduated from Drahomanov National Pedagogical University.

Before she left for the trip, her husband told her to be extra cautious but the three volunteers had completed the trip to the dog shelter and were returning back home when Russians used ‘heavy weaponry’ to gun down the car.

The car was travelling through Bucha, 18 miles outside of Kyiv which wasn’t far from the home of one of the volunteers. One of the fathers of the volunteers found the car covered with bullets.

Anastasiia – who helped the war effort as much as she could looking after orphans and the vulnerable – was sleeping in an underground car park to avoid bombs.

RIP ANASTASIIA

Kyiv calling in the war-passion of Ukraine punks (See video inside!)

Ukraine punk band Beton have turned the Clash’s London Calling anthem into Kyiv Calling to raise funds for a resistance movement.

The band was formed by an architect, orthopaedist and businessman, recorded their reworded version of the 1979 Clash hit in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.

They want to raise funds for the non-military operations of the Free Ukraine Resistance Movement.

The Clash have agreed to donate all royalties from the new single.

“Kyiv calling to the whole world …Come out of neutrality, you boys and girls,” reade the new lyric.

“Many Ukrainian musicians are now on battlefields or in territorial defence. This time they’ve changed guitars to guns,” said Beton lead singer Andriy Zholob.

“We hope this song shows Ukrainians’ spirit and our defiance to Russian aggression.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO8CSPLYV3U

The Clash were one of the biggest bands to emerge from Britain’s punk scene in the late 1970s and had several hits, including ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’ and ‘Rock the Casbah’.

“The Clash were one of our inspirations when we fell in love with punk rock and music in general, there is no snobbery or pretentiousness to the music, they had something to say and voiced their opinions against human anger,” said Zholob.

“London Calling epitomises all of that and we are very happy to be able to take this iconic classic and turn it into our own anthem with new meaning and life.”

Moscow refers to its actions in Ukraine as a “special operation” to weaken its neighbour’s military capabilities and root out people it calls dangerous nationalists.

WOULD YOU DUMP YOUR DOG IF YOU THOUGHT IT WAS GAY?

WOULD YOU DUMP YOUR DOG IF YOU THOUGHT IT WAS GAY?

Carolina’s hoochie poochie man

A man has abandoned his dog because he says ‘it is gay” after spotting it humping a stray mongrel.

Eh?

Yep, that’s right … a man in North Carolina says his dog is gay. And now its in the doghouse.

Literally!

Fezco, a five year old, 25 kilogram pooch of indiscriminate background, was hauled in to the Stanly County Animal Protective Services in Albemarle, about 40 miles east of Charlotte, by its owners.

They were apparently in a state of shock after catching Fezco at it with a ‘ four-legged friend’.

Now the shelter is desperately trying to find him a bit of a more liberally-minded family to give him a new home.

Their endeavours were hampered however by the fact that Facebook posts about Fezco had to be taken down because of homophobic and negative comments!

Yep, people took the time out of their mordant little lives to have a go at a dog got a bit cocky. Maybe they wanted to throw it a bit of wood themselves.

I know the Carolinas very well. As a writer I spent time there and loved it, whitewater rafting on the French Broad River, visiting the VanderbBilt Estate with its garden in its lounge, the haunted bridges of Winston Salem, the foghorn voice of the giant animated bull at Durham stadium and getting on my bike in Raleigh.

But it is a macho society there, particularly if you live on the outside of town. In this part of the Deep South, cars are winched in to the boughs of leafy trees and road signs are shot full of holes for a tourists.

The men drive over-the-top under-powered trucks and their women – instead of being in the kitchen, perfectly at home, home on the range – are down the bars drinking all the beer.

So, here’s the big question… what really made this Mr Macho even think his dog might be gay?

Had it slipped up when humping one of his legs – had it gone too far? What a bummer that would be!

Was it cocking a snook at his red-neck society – or did it just want to go dogging?

The thing sniffing round man’s best friend – yes the dog, nothing else thank you – is totally natural behaviour in so many camps of the animal kingdom.

They’re just having a laugh (unlike you Mr My Dog’s Gay). It’all part of normal play behavior for animals. And they do it … well … because they like it.

Simples.

Homosexual behaviour has been confirmed in more 1,500 animals types. They include elephants, giraffes, dolphins, penguins, Japanese macaque monkeys and lions, according to PETA.

Male penguins in long-term relationships have been seen at London Zoo and at Central Park Zoo.

So, may we just say to the Carolina’s hoochie poochie man, please be careful when you go on the pull that you don’t p-p-pick up a penguin.

Where have our children gone? 109 empty prams in Lviv

More than 100 empty prams have been placed in lines in Lviv, Ukraine, in a stark ‘memorial’ to the children who have died in the awful Ukraine war.

Each pram, placed outside Lviv’s city council, represents one child.

Ukraine authorities say at least 109 have been killed so far.

He apparently died in Japan.

The actor appeared in the 1956 movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters with Raymond Burr.

Akira Takarada

He was also in the 1992 sequel, and the 2004 film Godzilla: Final Wars.

He made appearances in the movies Half-Human, The Last War, and King Kong Escapes.

Akira Takarada in later life

Godzilla is a fictional monster – or kaiju – from Japanese films and became a worldwide pop culture icon in the 1950s. Godzilla has been dubbed the “King of the Monsters”, a phrase first used in Godzilla, King of the Monsters!(1956), the Takarada’s version.

ARE THE LIKES OF VLAD AND TRUMP THE KARDASHIANS OF OUR NEW WORLD OF HORROR AND LIES?

ARE THE LIKES OF VLAD AND TRUMP THE KARDASHIANS OF OUR NEW WORLD OF HORROR AND LIES?

The world’s free Press is, by using Bible-black ink and disturbed airwaves, chronicling Europe’s new horrors of war.

And we journalists are doing it well.

On the other hand, presidents and generals, tech Goliaths and Davids are playing fast and loose with the truth.

Rarely has the reality of the world’s free media been more important to us all as the internet becomes infested with spiders that might as well be from Mars as far as truth and reality are concerned.

Ukraine turns to ashes before our eyes as we are left peering through the smokescreen of war rhetoric and deadly make-believe, propaganda, and ‘false flags’ that lead us away from the blood in the ruins of cities, towns and farms.

All is phoney and someone needs to be allowed to tell the truth.

Russians have closed down their own media and so many cybernauts across the world spend their days demanding that all countries do the same.

And Zelensky’s own media-savvy heart turns to his mobile to stridently – and with immediacy – tell his own version of what is happening.

Then there are of course the stoic contorted faces of big city dwellers and country folk who face the enemy with Molotov cocktails, old rifles and rusty pitchforks.

There is the truth. In those faces.

But there can be little truth from the Orange Man from Mar-a-Lago who only a few days ago praised Putin’s campaign to attack the Ukraine.

Trump said: “Here’s a guy who’s very savvy… I know him very well. Very, very well.”

Power mad? Or just mad?

Trump – worth at least 5bn in recent counts – and Putin – oft said to be the world’s richest man – appear to have an element of respect fizzing like an an old electric fire between them.

And they both tell lies … Dear presidents, why waste the truth when a good lie will do eh?

And Trump keeps thumb-tapping his lies into cyberspace as Putin holds his own finger over The Button.

Oh and don’t forget our Boris, he’s caught on that war means the party isn’t over for him at all … in fact he is likely to survive it all by becoming a humanitarian peace maker.

Or a Blair-esque warmonger. Survival is what matters, not the way you do it.

Yes, Vlad the Bad has thrown up an Iron Curtain of fake news between his regime and the rest of us and still denies his barbaric war is his fault.

And while Western journalists try to tell the real story about Putin they are daily facing death by bullet, shell and crashing buildings

Last year 46 journalists died in pursuit of exposing real life.

The heroism of these writers, photographers and broadcasters show us that freedom of knowledge is no longer a given.

And so many of the smug bedroom-bound cybernauts don’t care about it. They want to believe their own lies.

But freedom of knowledge and expression must sometimes be earned with blood.

It is the whinging Lefties, the bombastic Rightists, the inhuman Nazis, the twitter-ati. It is the bloated social media conspiracy theorists who get more believers than David Icke ever did…

It’s the scandalous bedroom hackers of Anonymous too, it is the War Gods, the politicians, the self-seeking Oligarchs and big businesses that are happy to risk the world to make a fortune out of rebuilding devastated countries.

(Asia’s largest economies for instance went from poverty to industrialised nations in a few decades following the most brutal of wars. Japan and Korea’s economies grew after World War II and the Korean War).

It is all of those above who went to war on the media while the world begins to burn.

I have been to war as a reporter, I have been shot at in Northern Ireland, I spent a long time with squaddies. And the squaddies mainly told the truth, despite the fact their officers only told the Press – and them – what they wanted us to hear.

So, apart from the armed forces who risk their lives, all those luminaries, conmen, liars and cheats who don’t risk anything in reality have an agenda, an ambition and a disregard for any truth that might hinder them.

And that’s what journalists do … hinder and expose the corrupt. And that is why politicians, the Big Orange One, Mad Vlad and the likes of urbane string bean Hugh Grant – pants up or pants down – want to stop us reading the truth.

It embarrasses them. And threatens their hidden bank balances.

The Defamation Act 2013 was intended to protect free speech, the cornerstone of democratic society: The Act introduced a serious harm test and a statutory public interest defence for the first time.

But in reality it has failed to give publishers a shield against claims brought by wealthy litigants who are desperate to stifle media investigations.

And it gives no real help for people with good arguments who go to court and are exposed to the wrath of the powerful.

Right now, as a journalist of decades of experience, I have an expose on a very rich man indeed. He hails from an oft war-ravaged part of the Western world. But he is litigious and dangerous and vicious, so I am afraid to publish or even sell my story.

His great wealth may well ultimately allow him to escape the scrutiny of the UK Press.

This Rich Man like so many others could easily fiddle while Europe burns and not give the Poor Writer or his family a second thought as he potentially takes away our money and home.

The public interest defence in the Act, rather than providing a shield for important investigations, is in practice a personal attack on journalists who are not the object of the investigation.

It really is now a publish and be damned world.

And the revised Online Safety Bill doesn’t help either. It is designed to make social media firms responsible for tackling illegal content and protecting children from online harms.

But it has a flaw.

Algorithms used by tech giants to remove harmful material also blocks the online output of bona fide news gatherers. For example, legitimate stories about terrorism or child abuse could be blocked by the Spiders who might as well be from Mars.

And it is Press freedom which will die in this relatively new tangled web of deceit.

The brave Ukranians and their brilliant leader President Zelensky, are fighting for their lives, their families, their homes and their freedom to be who they’ve become over the last 30 years.

Meanwhile, the cyber world Googles the likes of the Kardashians.

This is the consequence of a society which puts egotistical monsters with lots of money on a pedestal so high that we automatically look up to them … the social media stars are our new influencers whose only desire is to persuade us to buy things, like a false arse and trout lips.

The world is in darkness because of plastic-bound emptiness and an obsession with non-reality posing as New Reality.

And right there in front of us all is the ‘world’s richest man’ obliterating a country and threatening to turn the bubbling churning wreck of Chernobyl into a bomb.

Who is going to expose people like this – and the shallowness and callousness of New Reality – other than the real McCoy hard working journalists who are willing to risk their lives to expose the truth about what is really going on.

We sell 536 million newspapers a day to believers and non-believers alike.

Who are you going to trust in the future?

THE DEATH BELL TOLLS AS PUTIN BOMBS HEMINGWAY’S UKRAINE PUB

THE DEATH BELL TOLLS AS PUTIN BOMBS HEMINGWAY’S UKRAINE PUB

Putin’s rugged, chest-baring manly image, it is suggested, comes from his fascination with macho writers like Ernest Hemingway.

Many who know Putin say hard-man American icons of popular culture shaped his view of himself as a lone wolf, a hero … a man against the world.

Anyway, Vlad, the news is bad! Your troops have blown up Ernie’s pub in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

Even worse, two people died in the attack. They lived in the apartments above the bar.

So now Vlad, for whom does the bell toll?

For those who wage an illegal, inhuman, devastating war against an untidy neighbour? For the victims who one morning awoke to what appeared to be a normal day, then faced death in the afternoon?

Or for the hard man on horseback@

Hem’s was popular with artists and writers and Serhiy Zhadan, one of Ukraine’s best known poets, would often drink there. He would perform too.

Hem’s was history, respect, creativity, a place to chat, show off, read, listen to music…

Now it is gone.

You’ll Never Drink Alone hung above the bar and a statue of the legendary American writer stood gruffly at the door.

The bar’s owner, Kostiantyn Kuts, said they had already stopped selling beer and turned into a makeshift bomb shelter.

Kostiantyn said: “We did not completely believe in what was happening and hoped that soon the bar would work. But the illusions were destroyed with the first bombs on residential buildings,” he said in a message.

In the early days of the invasion, Kharkiv fought back a Russian armoured column. Since then, it has suffered nightly Russian airstrikes and shelling, with dozens of civilians killed and hundreds injured.

Some of President Putin’s ‘macho friends’ include Steven Seagal, disgraced Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Gerard Depardieu and Mickey Rourke.

And then, of course, there is Donald Trump who often has good things to say about President Putin …

THE RELUCTANT FACES OF THE RUSSIAN INVADERS … (see video inside)

Melitopol is a town at the crossroads … it stands on the Molochna River through the eastern edge of the city and into the Molochnyi Lyman, joining the Sea of Azov.

The city is located at the crossing of the  E58 Vienna – Uzhhorod – Kyiv – Rostov-on-Don and E105 Kirkenes – St. Petersburg – Moscow – Kyiv – Yalta

It has population of 150,768. Melitopol and serves as the administrative center of Melitopol Raion.

Now it is administering defiance, determination and heroism in the face of the Russian invasion. The people – like so many more in the Ukraine – show they are battered but unbowed by the Russian soldiers who intend to destroy their lives…
